Trek Route: Paro-Shana-Soi-Jomolhari- Lingshi-Dumzu-Thumbusung-Shana zampa Passes (1) Bontela 900Meters (2) Thombula, 4520 meters.

Mountain views: Chomolhari, Jitchudra-ke, Tserimgang, Yale-peak ranges.

Nature of Trek: Endurance.

The scopes for trekking in Bhutan are immense from a short walk to arduous treks. The very moment you step off the road to start your trek you will be totally delinked from your stressful sights and from the sounds of urban life. You will be enjoying the breath-taking views of snow-capped peaks, densely forested hillsides, and river valleys and the sound of birds and gushing streams flowing down the melting snows of the mighty Himalayan peak. Allow yourself an excellent opportunity to experience the real heart of Bhutan. With the adventurous hiking path, you will be meeting people from a remote village which will give you an insight into the rural culture of the kingdom. You will feel the joy in exploring the amazing places, as your journey takes you through remote and deep forests with scattered tinny settlements. You will also be seeing the beautiful high grazing land of the nomadic yak herders.

Day 1:  Flying To Paro Bhutan

With your flight bringing you to the Paro International Airport, you will be received by our guide and checked in at the hotel followed by warm refreshment. Depending upon the flight schedule. If time permits our guides will walk you through Paro town .

Overnight at hotel in Paro.

 

Day 02:  Paro, Day Excursions To Takshang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest)

With the early breakfast, you will be hiking to the Taktsang monastery.

Also known as Tiger’s nest monastery. It takes 45 minutes to arrive at the tea house which is halfway to the destination. With another hour of hike, you will be reaching to the temple.

Note: There is an option for horse ride till the tea house for the individuals facing difficulty to walk.

Upon reaching the higher elevation, you will get the spectacular view of the monastery built right on the cliff. The history speaks, during the 8th century Guru Rinpoche landed on the cliff where the monastery is presently built today on a flaming female tiger in the form of Guru Dorji Droley (one of the 8 manifestations) to subdue the malicious being who was terrorizing the local residence. During that period Guru meditated for 4 months on the trance of Vajrakumara with his consort Khandrom Yeshey Chogyel to overcome the spirit. It is said that a trip to Bhutan is never completed until the site is visited. The tiger’s nest, the air itself is known for spiritual blessing while it also provides a dramatic landscape for photographer and vloggers. The trip takes about 5 hours. Right after the visit, you will walk down to the tea house for a complete vegetarian lunch. After lunch, you will walk down to the base and drive to the hotel with a refreshing dinner.

 

Day 03:  Drive from Paro Drugyel to Shanazampa. 16 Km / 1 Hour

Followed by the breakfast you will check out from hotel and drive through the stunning valley. The valley you would pass through was the ancient trade route to Tibet. Towards the end of the valley, you will come to the army post site. The campsite is located above the army camp. You have ample of time for acclimatization.

Camp site: Shanazampa / 2800m.

 

Day 04:  Trek from Shana to Soi Thangthangkha 22 Km / 8 / 9 Hrs

Followed by the breakfast you will be continuing the hike. Today the distance you will cover will be 22 kilometres, which takes about 8/9 hours. The trail is rather gradual without any steep climbs although it is a dense forest of oak, pine, and spruce. The camp lies on the left side of the river at an altitude of 3600 metres marked with two stone shelters.

Campsite: Thangthangka / 3600 m

 

Day 05:  Trek From Soi Thangthangkha To Jangothang 12 Km / 4 / 5 Hrs

The distance until the next campsite is 12 kilometres, which takes 4/5 hours. The path ascends for a while until you reach an army camp. After walking a few kilometres you will be passing through a village called Jammu towards the north. From this point, you will be above the tree line. You will be enjoying the stunning views of the Rocky Mountains. You will occasionally be passing by some solitary houses of the yak herders before you finally reach the old ruins of the fort known as Jangothang at an altitude of 4050m with a community hall. This is also the Jhomolhari base camp.

 

Day 06:  Jangothang Halt

Excursion to the nameless viewpoint at an altitude of 5250 metres, it offers a beautiful view of Mt.Chomolhari and Kungfu. Alternatively, you will be hiking to Tsophu Lake (4200m), which allows you to acclimatize. Weather permitting; you will see the close view of Mt. Tserimgang, Jitchudrake and Chomolhari. You will be walking uphill back to the campsite to get prepared for the next day journey. You will be served a hot lunch on reaching back to the campsite. After the meal, you will have leisure time to enjoy the Himalayan landscapes.

 

Day 07:  Trek from Jangothang to Dumzu 18 Km / 6 /7 Hrs

The walking distance is 18 kilometres. It takes about 6/7 hours crossing a pass known as Bhonte la at an altitude of 4900m. On this day you will be blessed with beautiful views of Mt.Chomolhari, Kungphu, and Jitchu Drake from the two lakes and wonderful landscape. The ascent is about 800m in altitude and the descent 1,090m in altitude. Before reaching the camp, you will pass through Soi Yaksa village and one-kilometre further you will be crossing a bridge to reach the campsite at an altitude of 3800m.

 

Day 08:  Trek From Dumzu To Thombu Shong 13 Km (5/6 Hrs)

The walking distance is 13 kilometres and it takes about 5/6 hours. This stage offers a lot of scenic beauty. You will have good views into the valley and from the Thombu la pass at an altitude of 4520m, you will have a stunning view of Chomolhari and Jitchu Drak. From the pass, it is all downhill until the campsite at an altitude of 4180m situated above the tree line.

 

The difference in altitude (ascent) is 700m.

 

Day 09:  Trek from Thombu Shong to Shana Zam 15 Km / 5 /6 Hrs

The walking distance 15 kilometres. It takes about 5/6 hours. The first part includes a ridge walk path and it offers a beautiful view of partly to the mighty ice giants in the Chomolhari region. The second part consists of a steep descent, which lacks interesting views. As you come closer to the campsite, you will come across the military camp. Many possible camps can be found if you walk further down.

 

Day 10:  Trek From Shana-Zam To Drugyel Dzong

From Shana-Zam you will be transported to Thimphu, distance 55km about an hour journey.

 

Day 11: Departure

Depending on your flight schedule and timing, you will be transferred to the airport to depart from Bhutan to onwards destination. Reporting time at the airport is 2 hours prior to flight departure hence all passengers are advised to report on time to avoid the inconvenience. Our staff shall wait until the time the plane takes off, in case of flight delay due to bad weather; you may contact our office to coordinate with our staff to extend the assistance.
